Getting healthy is killing me!

I can honestly say that I am completely amazed that I'm actually contributing to this forum discussion about weight! But I have to go on the record and say -- getting in shape . . . getting healthy -- is killing me! ROFLMBO!!! I ain't lying, I ain't lying!! I will be 50 soon enough and my doctor - who I could strangle everytime I see her - says, I better get it together physically or I won't be around to see my diva grand-daughter grow up. Since I am not really interested in pushing up daises at this point and time in my life, that notion has been the inspiration and motivation I need to try and make healthy eating a part of my daily life. But trust me, it still doesn't make the task an easy one - WHEW!

That is why I cannot wait for Jen Lancaster's new book, SUCH A PRETTY FAT, to release May 2008. Check out her book video below, which will make you laugh (especially if you can relate to her antics); then pick up a copy of SUCH A PRETTY FAT today!

This is hilarious! But I can certainly relate. I'm not yet 40, but I know that if I don't lose this weight and soon, I may not see 40, 50 and beyond. Like you Marlive, I'm not ready to be pushing up daisies either, so I guess I better get on the stick, and quick. Gonna finally put this MP3 player to use next week, I guess, as I hit the track. Hope the weather holds up.

O.k., so one way to get healthier, is to eliminate ALL soda and store-bought fruit juices etc., and instead, drink water, Green Tea, and Milk, everyday. Couple this with a rigorous "power walk" each morning, AND evening, and you will notice (natural) weight loss within 30 days.

After 30 days, begin to concentrate on eating smaller, HOME-PREPARED meals (absolutely no fast-food during this period), more regularly during the day, and avoid eating dinner after 6PM. Then, in addition to your walk, begin a light regiment of 1) push-ups 2) sit-ups 3) STRETCHING (very important to stretch everyday). If you stick to this script, over the next 60 days (for a total of 90 days now), you will notice even more weight loss.

This isn't rocket science, and giving up you favorite "taste goods" is always the hardest thing to do. But if you commit to this simple, 90 day regiment, and STICK TO IT, you will be so happy as you come out the other end. :-)

P.s.: Don't give up your favorite meals!!! Just eat smaller one's. Look at each meal a gift, to be greatful for, appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed. Always try and eat your meals in the company of others— friends and family. Eating is one of the greatest pleasures in our lives, and makes our minds as happy and content as our bodies!!!

Hmmm, all of this is making me hungry, so bye for now!!! Wil

OK, so am I hearing an invitation to a home-prepeared meal at Wil's place??? ;-)

Seriously, all good suggestions. I am close to 20lbs. lost on my way to my goal weight of 140. It's a slow process, but consistency is the key. Set your goals and stick to them and you will see steady progress.

Oh yes indeed Evelyn! You just tell me when your coming over, and I WILL make you dinner (I'm a closet gourmet, you know... mmm, I can smell the garlic now), and you can hang out with Mr & Mrs TPL for a time!!! :-)

Closet gourmet?? Hmm...Evelyn, I think a trip to Mr. & Mrs. TPL's place is in order! LOL What's on the menu Wil? :-)

The menu depends on what foods YOU like most! Please do tell!!! :-)

I absolutely love Italian and Mexican foods. And of course, being from the South (Texas born and bred), I love good old fashioned Southern soul food. Brief list of favorites - pastas (lasagna, spaghetti, etc.), fish, BBQ, enchiladas, and on and on and on. LOL I'm hungry now!!! :-)

O.k.! We are definitely on the same page (or should I say, same plate)!

Please allow me to consider the menu options, based on your input, and i'll be back to let you know what I have in store for you, if you do ever decide to pay me a visit. :-)

In the meantime, I gotta run to the kitchen to make me a sandwich!!!

Wil, THANK YOU so much for the excellent information you offer above!

I have eliminated sodas (even the diet ones) and with the increase in water, I have noticed the bloatiness is gone not to mention the fluid I've been retaining is gone as well!

Due to my busy work schedule, I've not been able to "power walk" twice a day or even everyday just YET. But I must admit that I'm carving out time after this week in my schedule to do both -- WHEW!

So again, THANK YOU! I will let you know how I'm progressing along with my first 30 days!

Hi Marlive, Thank you so much for introducing me to Jen Lancaster. So funny!!! I look forward to her new book. I am 43 years old and I can say now I realy do enjoy working out everyday. That took time and a lot of effort on my part. Putting your self first is tough but your reward is waiting for you at the next goal. So start slowly with a small goals and change it every week. For example "I will walk every other day for :15minutes. Then on Sunday I will walk every day for :30minutes. Change the amount of time you walk, days at a time and where you will walk. It's your time to give back to yourself. Because as woman we all know if you don't give back to your self know one else will do it!! Listen to Will he knows what he is talking about. Keep away from bad carbs and process foods. Also, I would look into some type of Yoga class. Great for stretching and good for the soul too. I'll check back real soon. Best of luck!

Hi Lucy, it is a pleasure to meet you and you are so very welcome! Yes, Jen is a very funny lady, but a WONDERFUL writer and this new book is going to be a definite bestseller for her I know!

Thank you so much for sharing your joys and pains of getting healthy. Your words are encouraging! From August 2007 - January 2008, I was exercising regularly - working out 1 hour a day 2-3 times a week. I have to say that I was "looking awesome," but hated every moment of the work out. Since January, I've been so busy to the point that I have not been exercising at all. And frankly I hate the idea of starting the process all over again. BUT, I must get back on track . . . . and the small steps back to my workout routine is exactly what I plan to do. Thank you!
