The People's Lounge

Pam Osbey

who i am

i am me...
i am what you can’t see.
i send my representative when
i’m in the eye of your storm.
you think you know ...
but you don’t.
you think you have me
figured out, but you won’t.
cuz i am what i am.
a mixture of many things.
a mixture of things that the naiked eye
cannot see.

still around and you might see.
you might feel.
you might experience something different.

you might transform with me.
your eyes may coast upon my
brown skin and see a darker complexion
you might smile at me and miss my
tears
you might glance at me and see
a proud woman
but you might miss the determination
from my soul

i am a seed of life
i am more than the naiked eye can see
i am yellow joys and pink daisies dancing
i am a ball of fire that never ends
i roll around the earth gratefully speaking

but i am ordinary.

i love to cook for others
i love to mentor
i love to read books
i love to write a lot
i love to sing notes that bounce off my walls
i am a community chick

and that might be boring to you

it’s just what i am.

i like to walk outside and let rain
fall on me
i love the taste of the salt from it
i like to walk for blocks and let the air
kiss my body
i love black men who are positive
i like to twirl my locks around my fingers

i am an ordinary chick
filled with too much emotion
that gets balanced out by God’s preciousness

i am not perfect
I don’t always do what i’m supposed to
i make so many mistakes
but that’s what makes me
beautiful

cuz i am just me
i try to be free
i try to be just a woman
of integrity
but somedays...

i can only just be
me...

a complex
a creative
a cool

woman that is blessed
to be where she is right now
