AWC DAY 30 - FINALE

It’s the end of the AWC month again
This year I’ve tussled and struggled
Coming up with ideas for my pen
Plotting the days ahead for you
So we can increase our literary flow
Helping you, me and our acuity to grow
With daily reading and writing
I hope new skills you’ve gained
I hope you’ve been challenged
I hope you’ve been entertained
Another thirty days
Now draws to a close
I know I’ll shed a tear
And have to blow my nose
As the pressure eases off
I’ll wipe the sweat away
But I know I’ll surely miss
Our April Write foreplay
It was great to see old faces
Even better to welcome the new
As your host I was encouraged daily
By the participation of the few
Saddened though as not so many
Chose to take part this year
But those who did and came to read
I thank you all so much my dears!
I hope you made connections
I hope you made new friends
The April Write Challenge 2009
Now comes to an end
I hand over the stage… use it well… this time is yours!
I’ve got to go and catch up with my belated monthly chores!
Was there anything you didn’t like?
What have you really enjoyed?
Until we meet again next year it’s time…
For your Day Thirty Free Verse Finale to be deployed!

From The Vaults, A Look At Early Indie-Movie History

Independent cinema is as old as movies themselves: For as long there have been major studios, there have been smaller rivals pushing back against the conventions of the system. Most of those little startup studios are all but forgotten — but one man has spent the past quarter-century trying to salvage that part of his family's history.

How Would Abbas' Resignation Affect Peace Process?

The Israeli-Palestinian standoff shows no sign of getting better, and it may soon be getting worse. NPR Senior News Analyst Dan Schorr says that if moderate Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas follows through on his threat to step down, that could lead to the collapse of the Palestinian Authority.

Veterans' Voices: Returning Home From The Gulf War

Charles Sheehan-Miles was a tank loader in the Gulf War, engaged in combat in the 24th Division. He had a hard time coming back to civilian life. How do you answer, he wonders, when someone asks, "How was it?" Sheehan-Miles wrote a fictionalized account of his time in the Gulf, called Prayer At Rumayla, to give some indication.

Ex-U.S. Hostage Named Senior Iran Policy Official

When former ambassador John Limbert, a former hostage in Iran, retired a few years ago, he lamented the fact that Iran experts and Farsi speakers don't have much of a career path at the State Department. But now, the Obama administration has created a new job to focus on Iran policy — a deputy assistant secretary of state — and Limbert was just plucked out of retirement to take on the assignment.
