Novels by Diane Martin

Fallen Angel is the story of a man. He’s someone who walks among us everyday. On the outside, he's the picture of perfection, but on the inside there's a war going on. His name is Izrael, biblically, the Angel of Death. He just wants to be left alone as he struggles to deal with the demons of his past - his fears, his guilt, and his regrets. Everyone wants him – to be a part of his world whether willingly or by force. He fights daily to destroy the frightening thoughts that wreak havoc on his ability to find balance and peace of mind. He realizes that in order to survive - a part of him must die. His survival – his redemption depends on it. Join me as we take a journey with Izrael as he delivers his message with contempt and conviction.

Autumn Leaves is the story of forbidden love, lies, and deceit. It is a story of self-discovery that engages the readers own definition of love gained and love lost. Claire is in love with the man of her dreams who she plans to marry until a woman walks into their lives and forces her to question herself, her beliefs, and her love for the only person who has always been there for her. Mimi is Claire’s best friend. Open about every aspect of her life, Mimi holds a secret that if exposed could change both of their lives forever. In a story of self-reflection, we find a connection in each woman’s struggle for definition and truth.

Never What it Seems is the story of Dee Wellington and AJ Madison, two women who were born in Chicago, and much like the city; their lives are anything, but ordinary. Dee grew up in a dysfunctional household that by today’s standards would be considered completely ‘normal’. Trying to cope with life’s complexities, Dee contributes all of life’s changes to God’s will. Throughout the changes in her life, she resists the urge to disrupt the balance of things unless she really has to. On the other hand, there is AJ Madison who is a rambunctious, intelligent, and outgoing character who lives by her own standards and believes that you get what you give. Both, Dee and AJ grew-up trying to maneuver in systems created to breakdown the human spirit. Readers will find a familiarity in their struggles, their desires, and their will to overcome.

WWI-Era Mass Grave Rediscovered In France

About 7,000 British and Australian soldiers died in the muddy fields around the French village of Fromelles during the first World War. A mass grave of 250 of those killed in 1916 was recently found near the town. Experts are now trying to identify the bodies and prepare them for burial in a new war cemetery in the heart of Fromelles.

The Man Who Made You Put Away Your Pen

When was the last time you actually set pen to paper and mailed off a personal letter to someone? It's probably been awhile — and the man responsible is Ray Tomlinson. In 1971, Tomlinson changed the way the world communicated when he invented e-mail.

'Mad Scientists,' Building The Future For 50 Years

If you've used a GPS system — or if you happen to be using the Internet to read this — you can thank DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. For 50 years, the smallish, somewhat secretive division of the Pentagon has been mostly off-limits to reporters. Now author Michael Belfiore has profiled the agency in a new book.

Arlington Ladies Pay Tribute To Fallen Soldiers

The Arlington Ladies believe that no death should go unmourned. How do they make sure that happens? The group of women attend people's funerals, even though they don't know them. NPR's Petra Mayer caught up with a few of the ladies at Arlington National Cemetery during this week's Veterans Day celebrations.

Obama Begins Visit To China

President Obama arrived in China on Sunday, as part of his eight-day tour of Asia. NPR's Scott Horsley talks to host Guy Raz about what President Obama is expected to discuss with Chinese leaders, as well as a report on the president's talks with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty and Iran's nuclear program.

Television Writer David Lloyd Dies At 75

One of television's most successful comedy writers, David Lloyd, died this week. He was 75. Lloyd wrote for Jack Paar, Johnny Carson and Dick Cavett. He penned episodes of Cheers, Taxi, Rhoda, The Bob Newhart Show, Wings and Frasier. But his most memorable work may have been on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. An episode he wrote called "Chuckles Bites the Dust" was cited by TV Guide as the funniest sitcom episode ever.

Terra Cotta Warriors March Through Washington

In 1974, a group of farmers digging a well in central China stumbled upon a buried figure. It turned out to be one of an estimated 7,000 life-sized terra cotta warriors in an underground tomb complex. The warriors and a host of other figures were created for China's first emperor, Qin Shihuangdi. Host Guy Raz drops by the National Geographic Museum in Washington, D.C., to see an exhibit of the figures.

Scared Of Planet Nibiru? NASA Would Like To Help

What The Future Holds When China Rules

British author Martin Jacques witnessed the decline of the British Empire over his lifetime. He predicts that Americans will have a similar experience as the power of the United States declines in the coming years, yielding to an ever more powerful China. He discusses his new book, When China Rules the World.

In 'Prisoner,' Twisted Whimsy Flirts With New Fears

At the height of the Cold War, the television series The Prisoner was so subversive and enigmatic, it lasted just 17 episodes. There's finally a remake, but if you're expecting a faithful re-creation of the British series, actor Jim Caviezel says you'll be disappointed.
