We are brothers and sisters

Like the music of individual bells

That ring together as one

Understanding each other

And where they are coming from

Like the keys of a piano

Black and White

And all the shades are just right

This one important time

This colorful life

No reason to fight

Just emit our unique chimes

In concert we'll find

Our connection.

About Me:
Writer, Poet, and Photographer

Raised as a foster child from the age of 2 to 17 years of age, a MA in Counseling, Dahveed has more than 10 years of experience working in the mental health field and over 5 years of advocating for foster children. Prior to pursuing a career in the mental health field, he served several years in the United States Marine Corps.

An accomplished writer and advocate, his vision and expertise in the foster care industry has gained him notable respect from several non-profit agencies. His writing achievements have been featured by the Famous Poets Society, The International Society of Poets, San Diego Arts and Poets Magazine, San Diego Public Library, R.A.W.SiSTAZ Black Book Reviews, and President of the YOUnity Reviewers Guild of America, Heather Covington. He has given presentations on behalf of foster children for organizations such as Walden Family Services Foster Care Agency in San Diego and Riverside, California. He presented “Every Child’s Voice Should Be Heard” at Yuba Community College Independent Living Program graduates in Marysville, California, and a workshop presenter at the 31st Annual California Association of Black Social Workers State Conference in Sacramento where in presented "African American Children In The Foster Care System: Are We Preparing Them Enough for Emancipation".

Offering a rare blend of creative and operational strengths, Dahveed created Dahveed’s Voice and Vision. Dahveed also has significant impact on the foster care community. As an advocate for foster children he has been invited to attend public legislation forums; the Select Committee on Foster Care meetings in Sacramento, California.

Dahveed's exceptional track record of advocating for foster children is based on his philosophy that “every child’s voice should be heard.” He is known for delivering a positive message to others that have been through and still part of the foster care system; letting them know that they are not alone.

As a writer, Dahveed has coined the philosophy that “writing releases what the soul cries out for us to hear.” In his first book, Through The Eyes of A Foster Child: A Poetic Journey, Dahveed released his soul to the power of pen in an effort to allow not only his voice to be heard; but the voices of millions of foster children that still reside in the system.

While preparing to pursue his PhD in Holistic Medicine, he is also preparing to release his next book, Before I Was Born: I Saw The World Through Your Eyes; which is a book of poetry and prose for children. He is also writing his next two manuscripts for a 2010 release.

Dahveed is currently a member of American Holistic Health Association, Prevent Child Abuse America, and the National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association (CASA).

He currently lives in Southern California.

Validation

When we search for "ourselves" in the eyes of others, we have imprisoned our own-selves in believing that our self-worth is nothing unless others validate who we are. Unless we approve of whom we are, what we are, and what we are capable of doing as an individual, only then we will have released "ourselves" from our own imprisonment. We are in charge of our own life's destiny and what we do and become can only be validated by our accomplishments and failures; not by what others may think of us.

Waging War On Distracted Driving

Nineteen states have banned texting while driving. It's part of a growing movement to crack down on mobile phone usage behind the wheel that is reminiscent of earlier campaigns against drunk driving.

Thanksgiving At The White House

At the White House Thanksgiving dinner Thursday, there were no surprises on the menu. There was turkey and honey-baked ham, cornbread and oyster stuffing, sweet potato and mashed potatoes and six kinds of pie. Fifty guests were on the list, including staff, friends and family.

Personal Rapid Transit: Future Or Elevated Fantasy?

Transportation planners are banking on a futuristic network of ecofriendly computer-automated pod cars as the next smart form of mass transit. Several U.S. cities are doing feasibility studies for personal rapid transit systems, and Britain's Heathrow Airport plans to launch its system in the spring.

Jerusalem's Palestinians Allege Expulsion Campaign

Palestinians hope East Jerusalem will be the capital of their future state, but successive Israeli governments have stated that the city is the undivided capital of Israel. Now, Palestinians in East Jerusalem allege that there is a campaign being waged against them to divest them of their property through expulsions and demolitions to make the Israeli goal a reality.

In N.Y. Museum, Renewable Materials On Display

Store shelves these days are packed with products claiming to be "eco-friendly." But it's hard to know exactly what that means. An exhibition in New York tackles that question with the help of 10 top designers. The Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum — together with the Nature Conservancy — asked the designers to create surprising products out of renewable materials from 10 different areas in the world.

Listeners Share Nontraditional Thanksgiving Stories

While many Americans strive for the usual Thanksgiving fare, some listeners revel in their own, idiosyncratic family traditions this time of year. Gene Koo goes to White Castle with friends every year, and Kim Kryzwy serves up a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving feast for her kids for the second meal of the day.

Virginia Couple Crashed White House Dinner

the Obama White House held its first state dinner Wednesday in honor of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. It was an event full of pomp and circumstance, bringing together more than 300 dignitaries from the world of politics and entertainment. The guest list was exclusive, and the security tight. But a couple from Virginia managed to crash the event. Amy Zantzinger, social secretary for President George W. Bush from 2007-2009, says this might be the first time a White House party was crashed.

Top German Officials Quit Over Afghan Airstrike

The head of Germany's armed forces and a senior official from the defense ministry resigned Thursday following allegations the ministry withheld information about civilian casualties sustained during an airstrike in Afghanistan in September. Christian Thiels, senior defense correspondent for the German television network ARD, says the two officials who resigned knew of the civilian casualties.

Restaurant Owner Recalls Mumbai Attack

One year ago, 10 gunmen laid siege to the city of Mumbai, India, attacking hotels, a Jewish center and other sites. More than 160 people were killed. One of the locations targeted by the gunmen was the city's Leopold Cafe. Farzad Jehani, one of the owners of the cafe, says the cafe organized a live band, and many of those patrons present on the day of the attacks returned to mark the event.

Report Accuses Catholic Church Of Abuse Cover-Up

A new report in Ireland — the second such report this year — says the Roman Catholic Church in the Dublin Archdiocese covered up decades of child abuse committed by priests. The inquiry accuses Catholic bishops of protecting the Church's reputation at the expense of the children in its care.
