Happy Birthday, Tom!

Happy Birthday, Dad! September 4th is a magical day - it is the 85th birthday of my father- and the birthday of my mother-in-law. Thomas Beirne and Toshie Tokudomi were both born on the same day- worlds apart. Happy Birthday, Toshi-chan & Tom!

Dear Family and Friends 'o Tom-

Thomas Beirne has a birthday coming up this week. On September 4th, 2008, Dad will turn EIGHTY FOUR years old. Please join us- and encourage all of our loved ones- to congratulate Tom on his birthday.

I set up a kind of online birthday card for Dad - please visit this link to drop by and give birthday wishes to Tom. (Photos and videos are OK too!)

Just drop by the guest book / "HappyBirthdayTom" group at the social networking site called The People's Lounge.

(Dad, Tim, Kimberly and others are already members of the Lounge. It is really easy to use and lots of fun. Great group of folks. Today we are collectively praying for our loved ones in New Orleans. My "first daughter" Jessa goes to Tulane Univ. in N.O. - but was evacuated to Mississippi yesterday, thank the Lord.)

To leave Birthday Wishes for Tom, just sign in and type in the comment box and click "add comment." If you have any trouble, just send me your comments by email and I will post them on Tom's Birthday Page.

Thanks to everyone- Love, Mike

Here are some shots of Dad from his 80th birthday surprise party in 2004 and some "older" photos too. (* Sponsored by KJRE *)

p.s. Dad lost his sister Delia recently. She was 88 this year-
so Dad figures he entitled to "four more years" ;-)
It was sad that he could not be there for the funeral, but
he joined his family in spirit and by phone to celebrate
his sister's life - a life well-lived and well-loved.

Happy Birthday, Tom! Thanks for all the great memories, of seeing you in Roscommon at that wedding back in 1988, of you picking me up at SeaTac and letting me spend the night when it was too snowed in to make the trek to Warm Beach, and countless others that make me and everyone else grateful to know you. May God bless you on your birthday!

Happy Birthday, Grandpa! Congratulations on living so long! Being almost 15 I already feel like I've lived a long life, but that could just be the back pain from carrying 4 books 5 composition books, one notebook, one binder, and a file organizer speaking.

Having you has been one of the constants in my life. Visiting you when I was just a toddler, enjoying my time with you when I was a kid, and now, as a teenager, when I'm at my semi-almost-but-not-really rebellious stage, I'm glad to have you there. And as I grow up and move on, after I graduate high school and move onto college, I look forward to seeing you still.

As seasons roll on, spring into summer, fall into winter, the world around us changes. Crazy bratty kids eventually grow up to become (hopefully) responsible adults, And as time passes, those who where once students become teachers, and those who used to teach become the learners yet again.

And as the years pile up, think of them as achievements, and not another obligatory event. Do not listen to accusations that years make you senile and eccentric, and do not allow those around you to baby you. Think of each year you gain as another insignia, another badge you have earned from your hardships, and keep your head high knowing that you've overcome and survived.

Let this year be another trophy for your case, and treasure it always.

Happy Birthday, Grandpa Tom, and may everyday be overflowing with the love and happiness of those around you.
