Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King— Word, by Word.

I thought it would be appropriate to create a permanent discussion at The People's Lounge, in honor of the incredible "words" that Mr. King left us with.

So I encourage everyone to post audio recordings, quotes, partial quotes and anything else, that not so much illustrates his physical image, such as a photograph, but rather purely the words he spoke. And feel free to also tell us about your understanding, and interpretation of what his words mean to you, and how we can all benefit as a "People", through his words.

Peace on Earth!

My first post is an excerpt from a speech that Mr. King gloriously delivered, shortly before he was taken away from us forever. And he said...

"... either we go up together, or we go down together."

I am so humbled, and hopeful each and every time I read these words. The simplicity, yet undeniable truth, and power of this idea, to me is just incredible... Wil

"In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."

To me this is the true measure of a friend. Will they stand for you? Will they speak for you? It is the measure of myself as a friend. Will I stand for you? Will I speak for you?

True friendship implies support. Support withheld is a betrayal. And betrayal lives in our hearts longer than the predictable, yet hurtful words of our enemies.

Here is a very powerful quote from Dr. King.

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."

Renee, this is such a valid and important statement, and belief system. Thank you for adding these words.

so true and well spoken ,yes indeed it is hard to have pride when you lack guts,
and as a man living in this day ! i am ashamed ..to see so many of my people giving up the dream for fortune, fame ,and gleam,, as if the poor, needed ,sick ,and hungry no longer exist,
unless some politician or sports star ,rap star, drug dealer, false preacher, doctor, lawyor, creditor, country, feels the need to exploit them further for his or her own selfish gain
like martian i feel i may not see a change in this life time, but when i leave this world i will leave in peace.. for i know i have sat a flame that will burn til a change comes,,peace wizthom
what a day that will be when no-one is judged by the color of their skin but rather by the content of character
